Keeping your colon healthy is imperative for healthy living. A healthy colon will allow you to have increased energy and better health. Good colon health can prevent colon cancer, fatigue, illness, constipation and many other conditions associated with a clogged colon.
There are a few things you can do to ensure colon health. Probably everyone by now has heard of colon cleansing. Colon cleansing is a method used to cleanse the body of toxins. It is not a treatment for a particular illness; rather, it is a preventative measure used against illness. There are four different ways to cleanse your colon:
1. Cleansing with an enema: This method cleanses your colon by flushing water through it via the anus. Using an enema is generally uncomfortable and requires administration by another person, so most people prefer another method.
2. Cleansing with herbs: Ingesting herbs is a safe, natural way to cleanse your colon. There are many herbal colon cleansers on the market nowadays. Be sure to read the reviews on any products you wish to use, and check the individual ingredients so you don’t have an adverse reaction.
3. Fasting: This method requires fasting, or not eating for a period of time. Without food, the body will naturally cleanse the colon. Drink juice only for one week. During that time, the juice will flush out any toxins that have built up in the colon. Some people go on juice diets for up to three weeks, especially if they are trying to lose weight. You can use fruit or vegetable juice. Diabetics should limit the fruit juice to control blood sugar levels.
4. Cleansing with food: This is probably the safest, most natural way to cleanse your colon. It is non-invasive and less harsh on your body than other methods. Eat foods that are high in fiber content to cleanse your colon gently and naturally. You can add more fiber to your diet by eating whole grain or bran cereals, green vegetables, and fruit. While any type of fruit is helpful for producing bowel movements, prunes and prune juice work the best. Limit your intake, however, or you may experience unpleasant side effects such as runny stools and gas.
In addition to colon cleansing, you can keep your colon healthy by eating a healthy diet, exercising, and drinking 8 glasses of water per day.
If you are over 50, be sure to visit your doctor regularly and get colon screenings. Cleansing your colon on a regular basis combined with having a healthy lifestyle is the best way to achieve optimum colon health.
